How to Install a Wired Home Security System
A wired home security system can be pretty expensive, especially if you have a large home. The homeowner can save bucket loads of money if they decide to do the installation themselves because the bulk of the expense really comes from the professionals fee. Here’s how you can do the installation yourself:
You will need some:
- Wire which will usually come with the security system
- Knife or a wire-stripping tool
- Hammer
- Staples
1. The alarm keypad should be located in an internal part of the home, like the masters bedroom. There you can decide where to start wiring your home security system. Make sure that this location is farthest away from the alarm sounder.
2. Strip the wire up to a half an inch to expose wires which you can screw to the terminal. Make sure to do this carefully as to not cut off the wire. Try to conserve as much as wire as possible because you will never know how much wire you might need. The wire that came with the wired home security system might not be enough.
3. After attaching one of the wires to the terminal, you can then route it to the next piece of equipment. Make sure there will be no hanging wires. That is what the staples are for, to keep the wiring clean and simple. Remember to handle the wire with care while stapling. Make sure you do not accidentally cut it.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have connected all the equipment through the wire. Make sure you plan ahead of time to keep everything organized. Installing a wired home security system might become a little complicated with a plan.
